One of MICROMINE Africa’s long-standing clients, Morupule Coal Mine, invested in training up some of the geology department. Training was conducted from the 19th to the 23rd of November and included a 3-day introduction course and a 2-day resource estimation course.
MICROMINE Africa’s, Kayleigh Cooper was off to Botswana to visit Morupule Coal mine to provide training to geologists, surveyors and technical staff. Once Kayleigh landed in Gaborone, she jumped into her hire car and headed north towards a small town called Palapye. On her way there she was fortunate enough to be able to stop at one of the few places in the world where you can physically walk over the Tropic of Capricorn.
For the first 3 days, introduction training consisted of going through importing, validating, creating a drillhole database. The last 2 days was spent on creating a 3D block model and then creating a 3D block estimate to represent the grade of the deposit. Kayleigh spent some time setting up their network license to begin running on Micromine 2018.
Kayleigh stayed in Palapye and to get to the mine site you drove through the local game reserve. On the way there she was lucky enough to see some of the wildlife. The Palapye mall is benefitting from the mining as there are now more malls being built in the town. The hotel offered local cuisines, which Kayleigh was not brave enough to try.
The last day was spent finalising their 3D block estimate, and any other queries the attendees might have had. Surveyors, Technical and Geological employees were all part of the training and this was the first time anyone had used a modelling software. By the end of the training one of the attendees had even imported all her drillhole data and began creating her own wireframe. Just goes to show how easy Micromine is to use.
Kayleigh finished up and took her 3 hour drive back to Gaborone to hop onto her flight back to Johannesburg. Another successful trip completed by our Micromine specialist, Kayleigh Cooper.
